Work Study

The Federal-Work Study program gives you the opportunity to work up to fifteen hours per week during the regular academic year (and in some cases, full-time during the summer months as well).

Eligibility: At least 6 credit hours, enrolled or non-enrolled with special approval, good academic standing, demonstrate financial need, U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen.

Amount: Hourly wages of at least the Federal minimum wage.

Repayment: None

How to apply: Students can check their eligibility for Federal-Work Study by submitting a request from their myGCC account under the Student Career and Employment tab.

NOTE: There are usually more students that are work study eligible than there are jobs. Students are encouraged to apply early for work study positions!

Financial Aid Updates

If you need assistance completing the FAFSA, please know that AEOC Outreach Specialists are available virtually to set up phone or Zoom sessions to assist with FAFSA completion. The DREAM Act allows eligible undocumented students to apply for the following state financial aid:
- Tuition Assistance Program
- Excelsior Scholarship
- Educational Opportunity Programs
- Other state scholarships
The Act also establishes a DREAM fund commission to raise private funds for merit awards for immigrant applicants from the state, and allows families to start a 529 college savings account using an I-TIN.

An online application for state aid is available through the Higher Educations Services Corporation (HESC).
The 2021-2022 FAFSA is now available! File the 2021-2022 FAFSA for the upcoming academic year. The suggested file date of the 2021-2022 FAFSA is now.
IRS Data Retrieval Tool (IRS DRT) now available! If you have already filed your taxes, use the IRS DRT to automatically upload your IRS information to your FAFSA.
Effective Fall 2017 students and parents selected for verification who did NOT file a tax return will be required to obtain a Verification of Non-Filing Status from the IRS. Complete form 4506-T and submit to the IRS. The IRS will mail back a letter confirming the Non-Filing Status which will be submit to the Financial Aid Office to complete verification.
Genesee has implemented Student Outcome Tracking (SOT). SOT ensure that you only receive financial aid for courses that are required for your major. For additional information please visit About Student Outcome Tracking.
All students and custodial parent(s) are encouraged to set up a FSA ID to complete student aid documents. You can set up an FSA ID through any Federal Student Aid websites. For more information visit the Federal Student Aid website.
